Sunday at Club Med

Up reasonably early for our first breakfast a mix of various asian, continental, cereal  and bacon and eggs.

Then off to book the kids into Kids Club and hopefully the rest of the day to ourselves.

We headed out of the complex and into the local streets where Mum finds some shopping.

And we take a stroll around Club Med.

Club Med Phuket Arrival

Club Med Phuket
Arrived at Club Med and were greeted with a garland of flowers and Orchids along with a welcome drink of Iced Tea or Water.
The complex is bigger than envisaged and after the check in the stroll to the room seemed to take a while.
We then waited for an eternity for the bags to get to the room while the kids wanted to go for a swim and no bathers.

We are here on an all inclusive deal 5 meals a day free drinks including alcohol and not just the local
brands.
This may be a challenge already being a bit bunged up after the long flight.
The pool is a little warm as it does not refresh when going in for a cool down.

Our fist meal was was the after noon snack which we caught right at the end and had a few club sandwiches to share.
Dinner runs for the best part of 3 hrs and we arrived about an hour in.
Having never been on cruise I guess the food choices were the same at least in the amounts.

There was a huge selection of Breads as you enter which the kids headed for.
Then the choice of various cuisines such as Korean, Thai, English, Italian and Japanese etc etc

The choices were too many any prompted for a pork chop and vegies

We slowly made our way thru to the deserts wish the choices being from fresh fruit to a chocolate fruit fondue to cheese cake etc etc and ice cream.

The evening entertainment was Ice Sensation which was about an hours of trapeze and  vaulting which had the kids mesmerised, followed by a short fireworks display and then the disco entertainment.

An early bedtime for for the jetlag impaired about 11pm.

Nai Yang

Nai Yang
Had booked in advance a small family run hotel close to the airport in Phuket

The rooms came with a free airport transfer as it is literally less than 5 minutes in the car.

Tanamas House Hotel has rooms at from about $22 / night.

We booked in  at about 10.30 pm local time making the whole travel time about 21 hrs

We booked Tanamas Hotel because it had a good rating on trip advisor and Agoda we werent disappointed.

Rooms were large and the bathroom similar. We had what appeared two newer rooms but were across the lane way
from the original Thai style rooms.
Our only fault was that the beds were too hard.

The kids woke up earlier than expected and complained that they were hungry. We had not booked breakfast with
the rooms as we thought that the walk of about a km to the beach would be enough to get up an appetite.
We had arranged to checkout at about 9 am ish and they would look after our bags until our return at about 2 pm
for the taxi transfer to Kata Beach at the southern end of the island.

It is hot here about 31'c but the humidity is high and looks and feels like jungle.
Phuket is far more green and lush than I previously remember from 16 years ago.
which is at the start or the national park
A short walk with the kids whinging its too hot  and I am hungry doesn't help.

Everything seems to be pretty quite for about 9 in the morning.
We reach the juction where the road hits the sea front and the National park starts 1 way and the main part of the beach the other. I had checked out on street view earlier so I new there would be some places to eat.
Everything appeared to be closed from the night before some of the beach restaurants were starting to clean up
but most were seafood or Pizza.

Nothing was open so we back tracked to the junction where we found a little cafe called Bread and Butter had open
up and was the only chance for breakfast apart from the small 7 11 type store we had passed.

We each had scrambled egg on toast with bacon  and some juice of various flavours.
And two teas to go.

A short stroll across to the beach forshore I spied some local wild life teathered to a tree.
Without telling the kids we approached the large Water Buffalo.

He was bit smelly and the kids did not want to  give him a pat.

The kids were more impatient to get to the beach and have a swim.

Part of Nai yang beach is a bit rough for young kids but the southern part improves the further along one goes.
There is a swim between the flags section available but the Life Guard was having an easy day as I think anybody
that was swimming at this time was not between the flags.
Nai Yang beach is a pleasantly quiet beach only about 6-700 meteres long no sellers hasseling you.

To the north just around the little headland the beach continues in to the distance with only a couple of figues
in the distance.

The sea is warm around 24'c and pleasure to get in.

My self and the boys were in the sea and Nicola and Emily were on the beach Nicola trying to get some sleep we had
a bout 3 hrs to kill

Next I observed Emily and Nicola trying to shooo a young water buffalo that had wandered on to the beach and was sniffing the bags.

The buffalo was quite relaxed about patting it a first but then became quite frisk and started buck and
jump around abit.

another family with young kids that had arrived on the beach about 50 metres away started to look a little
nervous as the Buffalo wandered across
to investigate.

The boys had taken to the sea and then a local appeared and encouraged it back to where it had come from.

Plenty more swimming in the sea and chasing the shade up the beach was all that was left to do.
Until one of the boys picked up a coconut then I had to start and peal it. This took about 20 minutes until
finally we were able to crack the coconut against a tree. I took a bite of the coconut and managed to
chip/crack my bottom front tooth. Oh well not to worry I had booked a dentist for a few days time.

Harry was obviously tired and wanted to go home so we packed up and strolled past the market that was setting up
had an ice cream and wandered back to the hotel for our taxi.
The local Nai Yang Wat
The taxi was the a family car that took us to Kata this took about an hour in time for our 3pm check in a Club Med Phuket.

D Day

Alarm was set for 05:30 although was not need as we both had a sleepless night.

Packed the last few things then everything into the car including 3 enthusiastic kids.

About an hours drive to the airport in the steady rain which has slowed the already busy traffic on citylink.

Check in the car at the long term car park an the the short transfer to the terminal.

All good so far.

We are flying Air Asia  X  don't forget the X bit as I have found out that Air Asia is in fact 4 airlines roller into 1 with bits in different countries such as Malaysia Thailand, Japan and the Philippines.

Check in all good although long cues getting thru security and customs took about 30 mins which leaves very little time to browse the shops and for the kids to run off some energy before an 8 1/2 hr flight to Kuala Lumpur.  We are all on the plane told of a 10 minute delay  1 hour later finally taking off no apparent reason just waiting for the 4 or 5 aircraft in front to take off.  Really 1hour to get 5 aircraft in the air Melbourne Airport get your act together!

Kids drive us nuts on the plane wont sit still wont play games or watch a movie all the way thru.

Kuala Lumpur

Had flown thru Kualar Lumpur before and the terminal was quite nice. However doing research before about a week ago found out that we are going thru the LCCT terminal which the cheap old terminal for Low Cost Carriers.
I think it must have been the old original terminal with a coat of paint. The usual duty free shops but and an odd eatery.  I will devote a whole page to the LCC Terminal at a later date as the is little info available that I could easily find before departure.Any way had a pretty ordinary dinner of reheated
Chow mein and chicken and riceEnhanced by Zemanta
